2025 NFR Inductees

It’s that time of year again folks! Time for the 25 new additions to the National Film Registry. I’ve been absent on here lately (2025 was a beast!), but I had to drop in for the latest NFR additions. It's the 25 of '25! Here’s are a few brief thoughts from me on a select few films:
1) White Christmas (1954)
A holiday favorite of mine, not to mention it’s responsibility for cementing the song “White Christmas” into the American Christmas song book. While the song actually premiered in Holiday Inn in 1942, White Christmas with it’s technicolor emphasis on the classic red, white and green Christmas color scheme paired with the song really drove home the image of CHRISTMAS into the American mind. And I have to mention one of my favorite dance numbers ever, “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing.” Lovely.
2) The Karate Kid (1984)
A classic underdog story that still packs a punch. The chemistry between Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio is unmatched. Unfortunately the story of a bullied outsider is just as relevant today as in 1984. Let’s hope this induction into the NFR keeps the hope alive for future generations to find their inner strength. Not to mention Ralph Macchio is adorable.
3) Before Sunrise (1995)
My personal favorite of the Before trilogy by director Richard Linklater. Effortlessly romantic, capturing the beautiful simplicity of the beginning of love during that wonderfully uncomplicated chapter of life.
4) Clueless (1995)
Looks like ’95 was a pretty good year for the Registry this year. Alicia Silverstone is perfect as the naturally confident Cher, trying her best to improve the lives of everyone around her, maintaining her picture perfect Beverly Hills fairy tale. A snapshot into this delightful Barbie Dream House version of the 90’s, when girls still wore thigh high socks and Brittany Murphy was still alive (and still had brown curls). Sigh.
