Irresistible Cinema - Interview with Greg Atkin

Gregory Atkin is a queer performance artist with a Master’s degree in Conservation Leadership. He is also one of my best friends. I am honored to have him as my guest and first interview on this blog. This recording took place on New Year’s Eve, 2022.

Notes:

  1. This interview is audio only.

  2. I misspoke about the title of Ginger Rogers’ biography I have on my bookshelf. It is actually her memoir titled Ginger: My Story, by Ginger Rogers.

  3. The correct title of the Legally Blonde sequel is Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde (2003)

  4. It is a requirement of the National Film Registry that films inducted must be at least ten years old. Therefore The Party (2017) is not yet eligible for consideration.

  5. The Librarian of Congress confers with the National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) before making the final decisions about the current year’s additions to the National Film Registry.

  6. The public may nominate up to 50 films per person each year.

  7. The Librarian of Congress is Carla Hayden. I misspoke and said her last name was “Harden." She is the first woman and first African American to hold the position.

  8. Before Hayden was selected as the Librarian of Congress she was preceded by Acting Librarian David S. Mao.

  9. Something Good - Negro Kiss (1898) is the correct title of the film I refer to as Negro Kiss. It is thought to be the first film depiction of two Black individuals kissing.

  10. Eleanor Bergstein is the screenwriter and co-producer of Dirty Dancing (1987)
